Teachers

We need your help to combat a flawed selection system.  You can help without saying or signing anything.  When completing the teacher input forms, don't be a hard grader!  Give ALL students a score of 60 out of 60 on the Renzulli Hartman rating scale.

Problem

Teachers rate 5th grade students using this form with no context about how their raw score is converted into rubric points of 1 through 4Click here to learn more about how the form is converted.

Most teachers give more than one half of their students a 58 - 60, which means they check "always" for every box except for one of two where they might check "frequently."  Two teachers grade so leniently that they give all students the maximum score of 60 out of 60 points. Another teacher gave all students 58-60 points.  Scores for every student in these three teachers' classes got their scores converted to a 4 for the placement rubric - the maximum potential score which nearly guarantees admission to advanced math.

Teacher that rate more harshly than others unknowingly deny deserving students access to advanced programsClick here to learn more.

Solution

Give ALL students a score of 60 out of 60 on the Renzulli Hartman rating scale when rating your students.

  • The district accepts form scores at face value.  They do not question or adjust them.

  • With all teachers giving maximum scores, the teacher ratings become meaningless.  This will effectively nullify its value.
