What You Need to Know
about Manhasset Schools
For Parents of K-Grade 3 Students
If you want your child to have a chance to access the most advanced math and science curriculums in high school, you need to get your child a math tutor NOW.
Manhasset's "new" selection process tests students on material (not aptitude), covering material never taught in the classroom. Therefore, to access the advanced math program in 6th grade (the gateway to other advanced programs), parents must educate their children outside the classroom in elementary school. Students are selected in 5th grade based on their performance on a content test that covers material at least one year ahead of classroom instruction. Parents won't be told this until its too late.
We need to expand in school math enrichment offerings earlier. Many students would benefit from it, and all students would be given an equal opportunity to access 6th grade advanced math.
