For Parents of K-Grade 3 Students
If you want your child to have a chance to access the most advanced math and science curriculums in high school, you need to get your child a math tutor NOW.
To access the advanced math program in 6th grade (the gateway to other advanced programs), parents must educate their children outside the classroom in elementary school. Students are selected in 5th grade based on their performance on a content test that covers material at least one year ahead of classroom instruction. Parents won't be told this until its too late.
We need to expand in school math enrichment offerings earlier. Many students would benefit from it, and all students would be given an equal opportunity to access 6th grade advanced math.
Vote Carefully
Two Board members, Pullano and Royce, will be up for reelection in May 2024. Find out where they stand on the issue. Pullano has told parents that she is not receptive to reviewing the advanced placement programs or placement as of March 2024. In addition, she publicly voted against Unlucky Student #1 when the placement process issues were first raised to the Board in September 2023. Royce was not present for that vote.
